while looking at my wife's recipes of the 'Lachcha paratha', an indulgent Indian bread that makes even the most simple dish, a royal treat.
The beauty lies in its preparation. It is a layered mix of crisp and soft with a hint of sweetness that titillates the tastebuds, where you don't really need a side dish, it tastes great all on its own!
This got me thinking🤔
Each person has so many layers to themselves. We sometimes don't even know a certain characteristic exists until we are faced with a situation that may be beyond our control.
It is fascinating when you develop new relationships. As you progress you find their layers peeling off. Some layers are difficult and can be misleading, but some surprise you.
So too with life!
Like the Lachcha paratha, to get a crisp exterior, it has to be roasted on a slow heat, which if translated into real life can make the best of us lose patience.
We all want instant results. We want immediate gratification and instant approval. But, that's not how things work.
The hardships are the tests that bring out the sweetness and softness of our true nature.
In the end, the Lachcha paratha is crushed to maintain its texture. And though it may not look very pretty, the taste surpasses all the defects.
Why then do we try and hide our defects or faults? We cover them up with a false show of being someone we are not. We hide behind the glow of fame and fortune.
We do not allow people to see their true selves because of fear of rejection, humiliation, or judgment.
And so, the layers do not come off. They remain and grow and eventually become the coal of our existence.
Lucky are those who find someone who polishes them to make their goodness shine, rubs their defects, exposes their talents, and crushes their egos to make them diamonds!
A simple life lesson from the humble Lachcha paratha!
